Nile,NOUN host Int'l confab on Social Science and Law

National Open University of Nigeria was one of the collaborative partners for the 2017 International Conference on Social Science and Law hosted by the Nile University of Nigeria at its headquarters in Abuja.

The conference, which drew ambassadors, academics, government agencies and global resource persons in the fields, was staged alongside the 2nd Entrepreneurship Trade Fair at the university to further "bridge the gap between town and gown."

The event, the third in the series, saw the VC of NOUN as one of the keynote speakers, whose welcome address provoked thoughts on the nexus between science researches, applied research, development and the culmination of eventual results for the overall progress.

Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu said the conference focused on the best practices needed for the development of Social Sciences and Law to enhance its practical applicability to the development of our social, economic, political and moral well-being.

The conference, said the VC, who was accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science, was "aimed at forging not only academic unity, but also blending ideas of change and transformation and application of the results of scientific research in public culture to create a bridge of knowledge transfer."

He said: "It is significant that this conference rests solidly on the fulcrum of inter disciplinarity. This is because it is getting increasingly clear that any form of knowledge transfer- which is the expected outcome of any scientific gathering - should lead to the process of generating knowledge based on user needs, dissemination, building capacity by decision-makers,  and most importantly, tracking down the application of knowledge in specific context.

"There is no specific preferred model for effectiveness of knowledge transfer. It is my hope this gathering will eventually help us to determine a specific theoretical model that will describe the process in our peculiar and unique circumstances and provide a road-map to future engagement with knowledge from whatever perspective," he said.

In his speech, the host, Nile University VC, Professor Dr. Huseyin Sert, represented by his DVC Administration, Professor Dr. Steve Adeshina, said as a frontline university, Nile was determined to continue organising seminars like this to champion sound academic discourse.

He said the trade fair was deliberately  organised to coincide with the conference, as it also drew  several foreign missions showcasing their rich cultural and entrepreneurial skills at their different stands.

Ambassadors of Belarus, Sudan, Niger Republic, Burkina Faso, and Mali, as well as academics from the United States, Turkey, representative of the education minister, the . ministry's permanent secretary, ANAN, and a host of other dignitaries graced the two-day event.
